I realize that I have completely forgotten to tell you about my Helsinki trip! We went there for Ropecon, but I left a few days early to visit a friend. I got quite a few pictures taken, some of which you already saw in an earlier post. It was a pretty nice and chill visit and thankfully we decided to book a hotel room for the weekend this year! Never have I been as excited about air conditioning.

I spent most of the con just walking around the sales hall and as an assistant at a friends stall. It felt nice to just walk around the place and not stress about any programs or schedules, but we did go and play Two Rooms and a Boom on Friday evening. I am more than tempted on buying the game so that my friends back at home can get to try it.

I am actually considering just working the whole con next year since that is, for me, the easiest way to get to talk with people. Whether it’s as a volunteer or at a friend’s booth again I’ll have to see when the time comes.

I also did quite a bit of shopping at the convention. We bought Coup, Dixit: Odyssey, Tsuro and Sushi Go. We really wanted to focus on lighter and easier board games as we have a few already that are more rule heavy and take 3+ hours. So far at least Sushi Go has been a major hit! Dixit is also a good addition, but we really should have bought one or two expansions from the get-go to get a little bit of variation in the cards.

We also bought two gorgeous latex swords and I also got a pretty little necklace for myself. Now I just need to find some matching earrings…

The trip was definitely a good start on my SO’s vacation as well and it was nice to be able to see some friends we haven’t seen in a while. It is starting to look like Ropecon will become a yearly thing for us too, which I am happy about. It’s not every day that you have thousands of geeks gathered in the same place after all.
